The Port of Göteborg is situated in the area which constitutes the transport centre of Scandinavia. Fifty per cent of Scandinavia's industry is situated within a 350-km radius of the port. As a result, Göteborg has an effective transport system and a well-developed infrastructure.
Gateway to the world
The Port of Göteborg operates some one hundred connections every week with daily services to Great Britain and the Continent and direct traffic to areas including North and South America, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Far East.
Göteborg has a well-developed rail network and is also a centre for road transport in western Sweden. Two of Europe's largest motorways meet in Göteborg. It is possible to reach all the major cities in Scandinavia by truck overnight.
Every four minutes, a plane lands or takes off in the Göteborg region. Landvetter Airport is situated about 40 minutes from the port.
Access
All trucks delivering goods to the Port of Göteborg pass through the Port ID control. Information about the goods is registered in the port's goods information system, TICS, and is reconciled with the customs authorities in the same building.
A number of shipping companies and agents also have access to TICS for booking and changing information, enabling them to follow their container passing through the port. In the future, identification and booking will be possible by phone and drivers will be able to drive directly to the port without visiting the ID control.

Together with the railway company, Rail Combi, the Port of Göteborg AB has created an express train connection, the Atlantic Express, which transports containers and trailers between the port and different destinations as Stockholm and Norrköping. These block trains runs five days a week.
Additional services
The port supplies additional services in form of loading/unloading goods into/from containers. Classified goods are placed in special storage areas depending on their classification. There is also a special unit for quarantine gassing, which is used mainly for exported timber goods, to prevent the spread of harmful insects and vermin.
Scandinavian Distripoint is a distribution and storage centre, which is situated close to the port. Together with a real estate company, the Port of Göteborg AB is responsible for Scandinavian Distripoint. The company specializes in offering trade and industry storage and distribution facilities and land. One of Scandinavian Distripoint's principal advantages is its direct proximity to the largest port in Scandinavia - an important centre for transport between Scandinavia and the world as a whole.
