The safe route to the market. NEMKO is a private, independent testing and certification body that can offer technical testing and certification of electrical and low-voltage equipment with a view to the protection of human life, the environment and valuable property. The Norwegian Board for Testing and Approval of Electrical Equipment (NEMKO) was established on 1 January 1933 and for more than 60 years it has been a prime mover behind electrical safety activities in Norway. We have a head office in Oslo and subsidiaries/division in USA and Taiwan. Our employees total 130, of whom 100 are engineers. We have won international recognition in our area, and are world leader in international CB certification of office and computer equipment. We perform approx. 16,000 testing assignments annually and NEMKO's database comprises 70,000 certified products. NEMKO participate actively in coordination programmes with equivalent organizations in other countries, on the Nordic, European as well as world-wide level. We aim to satisfy our customers by making the process testing and certification more simple. We are able to do this by means of high level of expertise, modern and efficient laboratories, improved information and last but not least prompt and efficient casework.

The EEA agreement and the EU.
As of 1 January 1994, when the EEA agreement between the EU and the EFTA countries came into force, Norway must comply with EU directives and marketing conditions relating to electrical and other products that are affected by such directives. In light of current international agreements and European agreements on cooperation, the fact that Norway voted not to join the EU will in no way effect NEMKO's recognized position as one of Europe's leading laboratories for testing and certification.

NEMKO Services
The services we offer cover a wide spectra of testing and certification activities, based on national, European and international rules and standards as well as EU standards and directives. Our activities also include standardization works, fire and damage investigation, instrument calibration, research, information services and related activities for safety and reliability. We can also offer to assess quality systems and to arrange for the authorization of business firm and companies, and we do also participate in technical standardization, safety studies and consultancy.
