Oulu is the economical and cultural centre of northern Finland. The growth and prosperity of the area are based on the expertise of the University of Oulu. It is an experienced partner and innovator in collaboration with industries in various fields of technology.
The University of Oulu operates in eight major fields: Humanities, Education, Economics, Natural Sciences, Technology (incl. Architecture), Medicine, Dentistry and Health Care, distributed in five faculties. The multi-disciplinary fields of expertise are Biotechnology, Information Technology and Northern Issues.
The international co-operation of the University in research and education is rapidly increasing with universities and research institutes, especially in countries within the European Union and Russia. There are 9,500 undergraduate students, 1,000 of whom graduate annually, and 160 out of the 1,400 postgraduate students take postgraduate degrees every year. Staff members number2,500.
