South East Iceland

South East ehf is a small family business located in the town of Höfn on the southeast coast of Iceland.

Our names are Anna María and Siggi, we run this business and our aim is to make your visit to our beautiful area as magnificent as we can. We have lived here almost all our lives and know the area and all of its hidden gems.

We have one 4×4 Nissan Patrol on 38″ tires and one Ford Excursion extended on 45″ tires. The Patrol takes 6 passengers and the Ford takes 10 passengers. We specialize in smaller groups and private tours but if we have a request for larger groups we do our best to supply the survice our customers seek. We are so lucky to have friends with super jeeps to help us if needed.

Siggi is the driver and guide, he has worked for many years in our local rescue unit. He worked as a fisherman for about 23 years but for the last 7 years he has been a harbor pilot and the director of the port of Hornafjörður.

If you have any questions or want to book a tour please send us an email or you can contact us on Facebook, our email adress and Facebook link are at the top of our home page.

Glacier Guides Iceland

We offer trips into the Ice fall
Numerous outlet glaciers descend from the main glacier plateau of Vatnajökull, all unique in shape, form and accessibility. We offer amazing glacier hikes on the most beautiful one of the bunch, the Falljökull. The ice slowly crawls down from the Öræfajökull caldera (just under 1900m) and falls to about 300 m elevation giving our glacier the well suited name Falljökull which translates to „Falling Glacier“. Our Glacier Explorer, Glacier Grand Slam and Glacier Extreme trips give you a chance to stand or ice-climb inside the magnificent Icefall created by the moving ice.

We cater for a range of fitness abilities
Because of Falljökull´s gradient the front of the glacier is low angle and offers a great variety of glacial features as soon as you take your first steps on crampons. These include the infamous glacier mouse, crevasses, moulins and often smaller ice caves. On our longer hikes you get a chance to put your new crampon skills to the test as we move into the icefall for an exploration or an Ice-climb.

Our guides and staff
This one you will just have to experience yourself but we think they are the most humble, happy, eager to please and honest people we know. Most of them have been with us from the start and their knowledge of the area is uncanny at times which is a bonus for our guests. Please do not take our word for it- check out tripadvisor.com and see what others had to say.

Experience the retreat of the glacier first-hand
Making your way to the glacier from the parking lot, you will witness how much the glacier has retreated and see the evidence it has left in it´s path. The walk into the glacier takes on average 20 minutes and is a great part of the over all experience.

Amazing Views
On the walk in, weather permitting, you can see Iceland’s highest peak Hvannadalshjnúkur, along with Falljökull´s brother, Virkisjökull, falling from the high caldera. As we move up and look back you will see evidence of the glacial retreat along with the distant black sands, cut by glacier rivers, blending into the North Atlantic ocean providing a magnificent backdrop.

Glacier water
With clear glacial melt-water running on the glaciers surface in multiple streams you can take a sip and fill up your bottles with the best water Iceland has to offer before it makes it´s way to the murky glacier river and eventually to the ocean.

Sheep
Each spring the farmers let the sheep roam freely to make their way into the highlands, on our hikes it is an amazing sight to see them carefully make their way above vertical walls dropping into the valley in search of the perfect patch of grass.

Viking Rafting Iceland

Our commitment to international standards

Far more than a small isolated rafting company in North Iceland, we are an active member of the International Rafting Federation and the world’s whitewater community. In an environment where local standards are virtually non-existent, we work with world leaders to bring home the highest standards in the industry. International standards do not come without international experience; last season, our team of 10 came from 8 countries and represented a combined professional rafting experience of 67 years in 14 countries.

How this sets us apart:

− Viking Rafting is the only International Rafting Federation (IRF) recognized company in Iceland, and 1 of only 5 in Europe.

− All of our guides and safety kayakers hold International Rafting Federation certification.

− The 3 founding guides of Viking Rafting are the only IRF-certified Grade 4/5 Rafting Instructors in Iceland, two of whom are the only Grade 4/5 Safety Kayak Instructors in the country.

Our focus on quality

QUALITY GUIDES.

You will not find a team of more highly experienced, trained, or certified river guides in Iceland, we promise you that. Every one of our Trip Leaders, Guides, and Safety Kayakers hold the following certifications:

– International Rafting Federation (IRF) Award, meaning that they meet internationally-approved standards in professional skill and experience (for more on IRF standards, click here)

– Advanced Wilderness First Aid or higher

– Swiftwater Rescue Technician Level 1 or higher

– Many other country-specific qualifications in professional river guiding and instruction (UK, New Zealand, Canada, etc.)

QUALITY EQUIPMENT.

We are the only rafting company in Iceland, and one very few in the world, that provide all of our guests with dry suits. Despite the significant costs of having and maintaining this equipment, we believe it vital to the safety or comfort of our guests in a paddling climate such as ours. Our off-river time is almost entirely dedicated to regular maintenance and repair of our equipment, all of which is done on site, by us.

Dive Silfra

DIVE – The Sport Diving School of Iceland was founded in 1997 by Tómas J. Knútsson, whose work set the standard for recreational diving in Iceland.

It is thanks to Tómas’s efforts in promoting scuba diving in Iceland that Silfra became such a beloved dive site among the international diving community. Today, Tómas focuses on a subdivision of PADI Project Aware called the Blue Army, which he founded and manages.

In the summer of 2006 Tobias Klose took over management of DIVE.IS. Tobias has travelled all over Iceland in search of new dive sites and developed new dive tours covering the greatest (so far known) dive spots in the country.

In 2012 DIVE.IS was upgraded to a 5 STAR PADI Dive Center and in 2013 DIVE.IS became a 5 STAR PADI Instructor Development Centre.

In 2017 DIVE.IS was recognized as a “Model Company of the Year” by VR, the union of employees and employers engaged in commerce in Iceland. DIVE.IS received this award for its excellence in categories including management, equality, work atmosphere, and employee happiness.
